Players are invited and encouraged to attend more than one tryout session. Offers will begin to be given out after the second day of tryouts. This is the exception and not the rule, offers will continue to be given out throughout the remainder of the tryouts. Players should try to attend all of their age group’s tryout sessions, in order to maximize their exposure to our coaches. Please make sure that you check and bring all necessary paperwork to the first tryout session.

Tryouts can be a stressful time, particularly when you don’t know what to expect. Here’s a general idea of what to expect at and after our tryout.
When should I show up on tryout date?
Please allow plenty of time for parking and to check-in / register so that the player will be able to begin warm-ups with the group. We recommend to come 30 min prior to your scheduled try out time.
What happens when I get there?
When players arrive at the gym, they should check in first (registration desks will be at the entrance of the building). At this time all completed and signed paperwork along with tryout fee must be submitted in full. Players will receive a t-shirt and a try-out number and will also have their picture taken. Afterwards, players should wait in the gym for the tryout to begin.
How does the tryout work?
The try out program is designed for the coaches to see every player’s level of volleyball and to arrange his/her team so that team and player skills can be developed to their best. Therefore you can expect the program to vary thoughout the entire tryout out the whole sport – there will be offensive, defensive, technical and conditional drills. A selected group of experienced coaches will watch each player and select the teams. *Due to the large number of players attending our tryouts coaches must distribute players across multiple courts. If there are too many players on one court, the coaches don’t have enough time to assess each player’s skills and ability level. Placement of players on particular courts or on particular teams during the tryout sessions do NOT indicate final team placement.
Do I have to attend all tryout dates?
No, but It is highly recommended that players attempt to attend more than one tryout session. Our coaches will place the teams on what they see so use the time to show your skills.
Which teams can I qualify for?
There will be travel teams, national teams and aspire teams. The black travel team is our first team, the blue travel team is the second team - most of the time, the skill level between our black and our blue teams are very close. The national team is a hybrid that includes lots of practice, several day tournaments, and one away travel tournament. The aspire teams have less of a commitment but still a solid level of play in which everyone will develop into better players. Depending on the number of players attending our tryouts and the skill levels, the Club can potentially add a third travel team at certain age group.
What if I am missing paperwork at the Tryout date?
You will not be able to participate in tryouts until all paperwork is submitted. This includes the Hofstra waiver and the Assumption of Risks- Anyone under 18 years old will need signatures on the forms from their parent/guardian. Please double check all paperwork before coming to the first tryout.
Now I am scared...
Don’t be! Make sure to be well rested prior to the tryout. Remember to come and have fun playing the sport that you love!
